We Have Never Been Only Human is comprised of 3D scans and modelling of moss, lichens, bog waters, earth and falling speculative seeds. Abstracted glimpses of a body submerged in a wetland bog slowly become apparent, as the edges where human, water and the more-than-human meet, dissolve and become porous.
The visuals were primarily gathered from time spent immersed in the landscape of East Iceland. The piece is part of an ongoing exploration into our watery, leaky, multi-species bodies, queer ecologies and rethinking the idea of the individual human body. Through looking into the preservation abilities of peat wetlands and the importance of waterlogged areas, references to bog bodies hold considerations of what histories and stories might still lie submerged.
