Ella Yolande is a visual artist working across video, sculpture & textiles, focusing on the intersection of art & ecology. She draws on artistic fieldwork practices to create video installations, site specific textiles & plant infused therapeutic garments. The work is informed by plant properties, queer ecologies, alternative mapping processes, colonial botanical histories & methods of resilience. 

Approaching the land as animate, lively and full of memory, Ella considers what might be ‘read’ and understood from the landscape and other organisms. Working with natural dyes, ecological research and local histories, she is interested in how plant traces might act as a form of record and how matter has resonance through time. 

Currently she is working on an Arts Council England R&D grant project exploring methods for creating site specific textiles through weaving, natural dye and artistic fieldwork processes. Working with plants from sites on Dartmoor, she weaves together pigments, fieldnotes & coordinates, to create alternative maps & question what is valued as data. 

Ella received an MA in Art & Ecology from Goldsmiths University where she subsequently held the position of Junior Fellow. She recently received Arts Council Funding for R&D. This included an artist residency at Southcombe Barn.

She has exhibited internationally including; Lewisham Arthouse, London; b-sides festival, Isle of Portland; Traction Project Space, Exeter; Nunhead Cemetery Chapel, London; Pilot Ima, Riga; Mega Art Fair, Milan; Skaftfell, Seyðisfjörður; Melkweg Expo, Amsterdam; Od Arts Festival, Somerset; with screenings including for Soft Shock Collective, Coldharbour Blue Cinema, London; the Coventry Biennial 2024; Videoity’s Utopia Today 2024 and Fiber Festival 2021.
